Apply to become the next Coast District Trustee 

What do I need to know?

The Coast District is soliciting applications to serve as an appointed member of the Board of Trustees, beginning on July 20, 2022, until the term expires on December 9, 2022. 

Do I qualify?

Applicants must live within the boundaries as shown for Area 5 on the District map, which includes Newport Beach and parts of Costa Mesa. Before completing and submitting this application, please call the Registrar of Voters to determine whether you reside in Trustee Area 5.

How do I apply?

Please complete an application and attach a resume. The completed application, resume, and a letter of interest addressed to the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Jane Burton, must be returned by 12:00 pm on June 3, 2022, to the CCCD Board Office c/o Jane Burton 1370 Adams Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA, 92626; phone 714-438-4610. Applications may also be emailed to jburton@cccd.edu.

What is the commitment?

The Board is responsible for the governance of the District which includes Coastline College, Golden West College, and Orange Coast College which serve 50,000 students yearly and provide vital educational services to the communities in the region. The Board is seeking candidates who have the ability and time to fulfill the responsibilities of being a member of the Board, which include:

  1. Participate fully in the work of the Board, which includes attending all Board meetings and key College events, studying and discussing policy issues, and participating in trustee education programs.

  2. Be knowledgeable about the communities served by the District's Colleges and be willing to act on behalf and for the benefit of those communities.

  3. Be committed to community colleges and their missions; understand educational, social, and economic policy issues.

  4. Engage in balancing the needs of many diverse groups; be able to contribute to and build consensus.

  5. Contribute to effective Board functioning and support the authority of the Board as a whole.

The Board of Trustees typically meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 4:00pm with occasional Special Meetings and Study Sessions when appropriate.
