Apply to Become the Next Coast Community College District Trustee - Area 3


Overview

The Coast Community College District (CCCD) is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Board of Trustees for Trustee Area 3, which includes Huntington Beach and portions of Westminster.

The selected candidate will be appointed by the Board of Trustees in accordance with California law and District procedures.


Term of Appointment

The appointed trustee will serve until the next regularly scheduled general election for this seat, which will be held on November 3, 2026, at which time the position will be filled by voters.


Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Reside in Trustee Area 3, as shown for Area 3 on the District map (Huntington Beach and portions of Westminster)
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a registered voter
  • Not be disqualified from holding civil office under the Constitution or laws of California
  • Not be employed by the Coast Community College District while serving on the Board

Residency Verification:
Prior to submitting an application, applicants must verify residency by contacting the Orange County Registrar of Voters at 714-567-7586.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit all of the following materials:

  • Completed Trustee Application - Area 3
  • Letter of Interest addressed to the Board Secretary
  • Resume
Incomplete applications may not be considered.

Application Deadline

All application materials must be received by the Board Office no later than:

Friday, February 6, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.

Appointment Process & Public Interviews

After the application deadline, Trustees will review all eligible applications individually. At a Special Meeting of the Board of Trustees, Trustees will determine which applicants will be invited to interview.

Public Interviews:
Interviews and deliberations will be conducted during a Special Board Meeting in open session and open to the public, consistent with the Brown Act. The Board will announce the appointee at the conclusion of deliberations.


Vacancy Timeline (Trustee Area 3)

  • January 21, 2026: Public announcement of vacancy
  • January 26 – February 6, 2026: Application period
  • February 9 – February 18, 2026: Trustee review of applications
  • February 18, 2026 at 2:30 p.m.: Special Board Meeting to determine interviewees
  • February 23, 2026: Special Board Meeting(s) – Public interviews and appointment
  • February 25 – March 3, 2026: Trustee orientation
  • March 4, 2026: New Trustee’s first Regular Board meeting

Trustee Responsibilities & Commitment

The Board of Trustees governs the Coast Community College District, which includes Coastline College, Golden West College, and Orange Coast College, serving approximately 50,000 students annually.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participating fully in Board meetings, study sessions, and key college events
  • Studying and discussing policy issues affecting the District
  • Acting on behalf of and for the benefit of the communities served
  • Supporting the mission of California community colleges
  • Engaging respectfully with diverse perspectives and building consensus
  • Supporting the authority and decisions of the Board as a whole
The Board of Trustees typically meets on the third Wednesdays of each month, with additional Special Meetings and Study Sessions as needed. (Schedule linked above.)

Orientation & Training

The appointed trustee will participate in a trustee orientation following appointment and before assuming full duties.
