Thank you to the hundreds of residents who took part in our recent Community Survey. Your input truly matters, and we’re excited to continue this shared conversation about the future of higher education in our community.

Our local community colleges play a vital role in local affordable higher education. Did you know attending one of our local community colleges is six times cheaper than Cal State Fullerton and 16 times cheaper than UCI? The community has told us they think it is important to increase opportunities for local students to earn college credits and certifications and learn job skills at an affordable price and then transfer to four-year colleges and universities without generating crushing debt.

Many of the buildings, classrooms and labs in our local community colleges are aging and in decline, including some that were built over 75 years ago. The District seeks to address the most urgent repair needs, including removing asbestos and mold, repairing leaky roofs and deteriorating gas, electrical and sewer lines and restrooms and improve earthquake safety so students can learn in safe, healthy classrooms.

The community also identified the following higher learning priorities:

  • Maintaining access to affordable higher education
  • Removing mold
  • Preparing students and veterans for careers, high demand jobs and skilled trades
  • Repairing deteriorating gas and electrical lines
  • Expanding classrooms and labs to prepare students for careers in science, technology, and engineering
