Summer in Spain

    Classes are transferable to UC/CSU systems.

This will be a unique opportunity to experience Madrid, Spain's cosmopolitan capital. Coast District faculty will accompany you to Spain and teach a 4 week session of transferable credit classes in fields such as geography, and Spanish language and culture. Participation in the summer in Spain program allows you to expand your educational experience while earning transferable college credit through the Coast Community College District.

Academic Program

Photo: Bullfighter in Madrid You may elect to receive credit from Coastline Community College, Golden West or Orange Coast College. During the summer in Spain, you can expect to be in class approximately five hours per day, four days per week. You will be registered for one or two courses (5 units) selected from the courses taught by Coast Community College District faculty and Native Spanish Faculty.


The Cultural Program

Photo: Sidewalk cafe in Barcelona Cultural learning is an integral part of the Semester in Spain program. You will attend on-site lectures at museums and historical sites in Madrid. In addition, the program includes a three-day, two night excursion to Segovia/La Granja and Toledo, and a two night excursion to Sierra Nevada and Andalucia. The service provider has a well organized program of after-study excursions and social activities which include a well-rounded mix of culture, sport, sight-seeing, and shopping. Two events are included in your program fee but you are welcome to join others on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Program Cost: $2650
plus $250 first payment due with application

Program price includes:

  • Breakfast and one other meal daily
  • Surface transportation from Madrid
  • Welcome and farewell receptions
  • Orientation and guided tour of each city on arrival
  • Two-night, three-day excursion to Sierra Nevada and Andalucia including transportation, entrances, and two meals each day.
  • Museum and monument entrance fees for class visits and excursions
  • Transfers from Madrid airport for group flight participants
  • 2 one day excursions to Segovia/La Granja and Toledo.

Program price does not include:

  • Coast Community College District tuition of $18.00 per unit. 
  • You are responsible for obtaining airfare to Spain.
  • Meals except as specified above
  • Ground transportation in Madrid
  • Personal expenses, books, passports and visas, and anything not listed as included

Enrollment Fees

An enrollment fee of $18.00 per unit plus College Services Fee must be paid to Golden West College or Orange Coast College at the time of class registration. Non-residents of California pay $154.00 per unit in addition to the above fees. Fees are set by the State of California and are subject to change.

Insurance

The International Student I.D. is included for the Summer in Spain. The card includes a very basic sickness and accident insurance policy. In general, the limits are $100 per day up to a maximum of 60 days for in-hospital sickness expense. If you do not have a policy that will cover you while abroad you will need to obtain supplemental medical insurance. Students will be required to provide proof of medical insurance prior to departure.
