Immerse yourself in the language and culture of Italy. The Summer in Rome program offers a unique opportunity to expand your educational experience while earning transferable college credit through the Coast Community College District. Faculty Franca Hamber and Patricia Scarfone Franca Hamber is a native of Italy. Before moving to the United States she was educated at the University of Bologna in Italy where she studied Italian Literature. She has a B.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of California at Irvine. She is presently a lecturer of Italian at UCI and she has been teaching there for the past 20 years. She is also a part-time faculty at Orange Coast College where she has been for six years. This will be her tenth year taking students to Italy with ACCENT. Patricia Scarfone is Professor of Spanish and Italian at Orange Coast College. A native of Italy, she is an avid traveler who became interested in study abroad early on. In addition to conducting study abroad programs to Costa Rica, Italy, Mexico and Spain, she served as International Education Coordinator for the Coast Community College District for several years. During that time, she coordinated several semester and short-term programs to destinations such as Australia, Costa Rica, England, France, Italy, Mexico and Spain. Patricia is a strong and active proponent of second-language study and she believes that "knowledge of a second language is a door to the worlds cultures." She encourages students to open that door and explore the wonderful opportunities that await them. Cultural Program Cultural learning is an integral part of the Summer in Rome program. You will attend on-site lectures at museums and historical sites within and outside of Rome. Also included in the program are: A one-day excursion to Orvieto with guide, transportation and entry costs A three-day, two-night excursion to Florence including transportation, hotel stay and guided visits An optional three-day/two-night excursion to Venice with hotel, transportation and guide is available as well ($510). Excursions are chosen based on the academic curriculum and are subject to change. Program Price $3,875.00 plus $150 refundable security deposit Program price includes: Double/triple occupancy rooms in shared student apartments in a student residence Double/triple/quad occupancy on overnight excursion Visits to major museums and other cultural sites in Rome Day excursion to Orvieto including entry fees, transportation and guided visit Three-day/two-night excursion to Florence including entry fees, transportation, accommodation and guides Overseas orientation program including walking tour of area around the ACCENT Center Overseas information and resource center with ACCENT Rome on-site staff Transit pass, valid on bus and metro in Rome Transfers from and to the Rome airport for group flight participants Program price does not include: Round-trip airfare Tuition at the Coast Community College District Optional three-day/two-night excursion to Venice ($510) Meals except as specified Personal expenses, passports, visas, books and anything not listed as included Required CCCD medical insurance (see description) Travel and personal property insurance Payment schedule Final Payment due April 22, 2010. Insurance All program participants are required to purchase short-term outbound study abroad medical insurance through an approved District insurance provider. Program participants can find further information on the required study abroad medical insurance at http://www.cccd.edu/studyabroad/about.aspx. Program participants must purchase this study abroad medical insurance no less than 60 days prior to program departure. Failure to purchase the required study abroad medical insurance shall prevent student from participating in the study abroad program. Academic Credit An enrollment fee of $26.00 per unit must be paid to Orange Coast College at the time of registration. In addition non-resident students pay an additional $190.00 for a total of $216.00 per unit. This tuition is state mandated and subject to change. Study Program Students will receive credit from Orange Coast College.
