Spend a month in Paris, a city renowned
for its wealth of historical, artistic and cultural riches. Immerse yourself in
a language and culture that span the Middle Ages through the 20th century, in a
city that draws students from around the world. Paris is your classroom as you
study the French language, and attend on-site lectures at the many galleries,
museums and cultural sites throughout the city. The Summer in Paris program
offers a unique opportunity to expand your educational experience while earning
transferable college credit through the Coast Community College District.

An evening in France
Academic Program
You may enroll through Coastline
Community College, Golden West College or Orange Coast College, studying French
at all levels. Lia Raileanu, Golden West College French instructor, will teach
the beginning French class. All other students will be enrolled at the
Sorbonne. You can expect to be in class approximately four hours per day, five
days per week. All classes transfer to the University of California and
California State University systems.
The Cultural Program
Cultural learning is an integral part of
the Summer in Paris program. You will attend on-site lectures at museums and
historical sites within and outside of Paris. In addition, you will take part
in a cultural activity series that includes two evening performances of opera,
concert or ballet; lectures on local customs and contemporary issues, sports
events, and film evenings. Day excursions to the Loire Valley, Chartres,
Giverney, and Versailles or similar are included in the program. Also included
is an optional three-day, two night excursion to Normandy and Brittany.

The Cafeteria
Housing
You may choose to live in double or
single rooms in the Cité Universitaire, a historic residential campus for
students studying in Paris. ACCENT cannot accommodate early arrivals or provide
accommodations after the program ends.
Transportation
ACCENT will organize a round-trip group
flight from Los Angeles. The cost of this flight is not included in the program
fee. Group flight participants will be met at the airport in Paris and
transferred to their housing. Students returning to the U.S. on the group
return date will receive transportation to the Paris airport. Accent will
provide detailed flight information at least three months prior to departure.
Group flight reservations must be made at least 40 days prior to departure.
Enrollment Fees
An enrollment fee of $26.00 per unit must
be paid to Coastline Community College, Golden West or Orange Coast College at
the time of registration. Non-resident students pay $175.00 per unit. This
tuition is state mandated and subject to change.
Insurance
The International Student I.D. is
included for the summer in Paris. The card includes a very basic sickness and
accident insurance policy. In general, the limits are $100 per day up to a
maximum of 60 days for in-hospital sickness expense. If you do not have a
policy that will cover you while abroad you will need to obtain supplemental
medical insurance. Students will be required to provide proof of medical
insurance prior to departure.
Faculty
Lia Raileanu is Professor of
French at Golden West and Orange Coast College. She is a professor, writer,
workshop presenter and teacher consultant, highly specialized in the
methodology of teaching foreign languages. A successful organizer and inspiring
teacher, she has conducted fourteen student groups in France, including CCCD
Summers in Paris since 1992.
