Academic Information

Coastline Community College will offer two classes for this program: English 164, ‘Theater History and Appreciation’, and Humanities 110, ‘Humanities Through the Arts’.  English 164 is a 3-unit class designed for the General Education student and is an introduction to dramatic literature and an examination of the process of play production.  Included is a view of each period of dramatic literature in the context of history and mind set, the study of characterization and theme, and examination of the creative process.

During the Humanities 110 class, also a 3-unit class, students will start with a lecture and discussion-based introduction to the general information on the culture, peoples, and experiences of various nations throughout Europe.  This instruction will culminate in a European tour encompassing the nations studied within the classroom exercises.

Students will enroll in one class, but are welcome to enroll in both classes.  Both of these classes will transfer to the CSU and UC systems.  Please check with a Coastline counselor to confirm this.

Study Abroad is a life-changing experience, giving students special perspective on the world beyond their own borders, people of other nations, and their own life in the United States.  There is no better way to learn about another country's people, language, history, economy, art and politics.  Students studying abroad are enriched academically and personally and find later that graduate schools and employers look favorably on those who have enhanced their perspective by studying overseas.

Please take a look at these ‘top ten’ suggestions!

Linda Carpenter

Linda Carpenter is a full-time English teacher and Academic Coach at a high school in Huntington Beach, CA and is a part-time Associate Professor of English, Speech and the Humanities at Coastline Community College, an independent producer, creative consultant and test taking advisor.  Linda believes that educational travel offers the quintessential learning experience.  During the past 21 years she has led 36 study tours and escorted her students to every continent except Antarctica.  A recipient of 74 education awards, this former drama teacher retains a passion for the theater and views educational travel as an opportunity to provide her students with the essence of cultural enrichment, and to instill in them a love of language and literature.  This will be her third trip to Australia and New Zealand.
