COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT BOARD ELECTS PRESIDENT
The Coast Community College District Board of Trustees has elected
Dr. Paul Berger to serve as Board President for 2002.
Berger, a Costa Mesa resident, was elected at the Board’s
December 12 meeting.
Berger was first elected to the Coast District Board of Trustees
in 1987. A retired
high school administrator in Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley,
Berger has been active in California education for many years.

Berger’s career in
education spans over 48 years. He
served as the first principal of Fountain Valley High School and is
active in a number of community organizations, including the United Way
of Orange County.
Berger previously served as Coast District Board President in 1991, 1993
and 1997. He replaces 2002
Board President Walter G. Howald.
The Board also elected Armando Ruiz to serve as Vice President for 2003. Ruiz is a resident of Huntington Beach and a faculty member
at Irvine Valley College.
The Coast Community College District is the seventh largest community
college district in the nation in credit enrollment, serving 55,000
students each semester. The
district is comprised of Coastline Community College headquartered in
Fountain Valley, Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Orange Coast
College in Costa Mesa, and KOCE-TV, the district’s public broadcasting
station.
