COAST DISTRICT TRUSTEE RUIZ APPOINTED TO NATIONAL TRUST FUND POST

       


 
        
The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) has appointed Coast Community College District Trustee Armando Ruiz to the association's Trust Fund Board. The appointment was made at ACCT's July 2004 summer board retreat in Michigan by the association's board chair, David Rutledge.

         According to the ACCT, the prestigious Trust Fund Board was established over 30 years ago by the ACCT board of directors for the purposes of financing projects pertaining to the education and training of community college governing board members. Along with eight other Trust Fund Board members, Ruiz's responsibility is to manage the Trust Fund in accordance with bylaws set by the ACCT board of directors.

         Coast District Board President George Brown said he is proud of Trustee Ruiz’s new appointment.

         “ Armando’s appointment brings honor and national recognition to our entire District,” Brown said. “After more than 20 years as a community college trustee, he brings to this role a deep understanding of good boardsmanship, and I know he will prove an important resource to his colleagues throughout the country by serving on the ACCT Trust Fund Board.”

         Ruiz was on the ACCT Board of Directors for six years and has also served as chair of the association’s Pacific Region, comprised of the Western United States and the Pacific Islands.

         The Association of Community College Trustees is a nonprofit educational organization of governing boards, representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern over 1,200 community, technical, and junior colleges in the United States, Canada, and England.

        The Coast Community College District is the seventh largest community college district in the nation in credit enrollment, serving 55,000 students each semester.  The district is comprised of Coastline Community College headquartered in Fountain Valley, Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, and KOCE-TV, the district’s public broadcasting station.
