The
new trustee lives in Newport Beach and was elected to the Board
by the District-Wide Student Council. The council includes three
student representatives from each of the three colleges in the
District – Coastline Community College, Golden West College
and Orange Coast College.
Among her duties as student
trustee, Levy will meet with the district student council on a monthly basis
to discuss student issues to bring before the board. Though the student trustee
is a non-voting member of the board, Levy has all other rights and privileges
of a trustee, including the ability to make and second motions and engage in
discussions. Levy will serve a one-year term, ending in May 2004.
“I’m energized and looking forward to representing all of the Coast
Community College District students as Student Trustee,” Levy said. “I
feel it is a great opportunity to unite the students of Coastline Community College,
Golden West College and Orange Coast College and work together to support District-wide
issues such as the effects of the state budget cuts on community college students. ”
“The Board is looking forward to working with Ms. Levy in the coming year,” said
Board President Paul Berger. “Madeline joins the Board having already served
last year as the Vice President of the Associated Students of Orange Coast College.
She is experienced at representing the voice of students at her college, and
I am confident that experience will benefit her as she represents the students
of this District at our Board meetings and in the community.”
As Student Trustee, Levy will represent all of the students in the Coast Community
College District. “My priorities are to unite our three campuses and build
a closer relationship between Coast students and our state legislators,” Levy
said. Levy
is active in numerous community activities and college life at
Orange Coast College, including serving as vice president for the
Associated Students of Orange Coast College. A 2001 graduate of
Monte Vista High School, Levy plans to complete her general education
requirements at Orange Coast College and transfer to a four-year
university to study International Relations. Her career goal is
to work at the United States State Department’s Foreign Services
division.
The Coast Community College District is the seventh largest community college district in the nation in credit enrollment, serving more than 60,000 students each semester. The district is comprised of Coastline Community College headquartered in Fountain Valley, Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, and KOCE-TV, the district’s public broadcasting station.
