At
a meeting last week, the Coast Community College District Board
of Trustees voted in favor of the altered summer schedule to save
costs in the face of expected budget cuts from the State.
“This
is really a drastic measure in the face of drastic cuts in our
funding,” said Board President Paul Berger. “This Board is committed
to maintaining broad public access to our facilities throughout
the year. It is unfortunate that this fiscal crisis has forced
us to make this change in our summer hours. It is hoped that the
expanded hours on Monday through Thursday will make it easier for
students and the general public to conduct business with the District
and its colleges in a timely manner despite this reduced schedule.”
All
District facilities will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through
Thursday during the summer.
The
reduced schedule will not affect summer classes at Orange Coast
College, Golden West College or Coastline Community College, as
summer school classes are seldom held on Fridays.
