COAST DISTRICT VICE CHANCELLOR RECEIVES
PRESTIGIOUS ADMINISTRATIVE
LEADERSHIP AWARD
Dr. John Renley, vice chancellor of human resources for the Coast Community College
District, and Dana Point resident, was awarded the prestigious Leadership Award
for Administrative Excellence during the Silver Anniversary Conference of the Association of California Community College Administrators
(ACCCA), held in
Pasadena, California.

Renley was nominated to receive this award by several community college administrators. As stated in a nomination letter from Dr. Donald Averill,
superintendent/president of Palo Verde Community College District, “John Renley is THE best known chief human resources officer in the California community colleges if not in the
nation. His knowledge and expertise is well known and others seek him out for advice
from the
CEO level on down.”
Renley has served as Coast Community College District’s vice chancellor for human resources since 1989. During his time with the district, Renley has been responsible for the
overall administration of a district-wide comprehensive human resources program.
Renley has developed and recommended district-wide employment policies, rules,
regulations, and programs to the chancellor. He is chief negotiator in the collective bargaining process
and has developed policies and programs pertinent to staff relations, professional
improvement and morale development. His present and former organizational affiliations include:
Chief Human Resource Officers/Affirmative Action, Chancellor’s Council of Organizations, California Community College Chancellor’s Staff Diversity Committee, and the American Association for Affirmative Action. In addition to his service to these educational organizations, Renley also served as the former chair of the ACCCA Human Resources Commission.
The Coast Community College District is the fourth largest community college
district in the nation in credit enrollment and comprises Coastline Community
College headquartered in Fountain Valley, Golden West College and KOCE-TV
located in Huntington Beach, and Orange Coast College located in Costa Mesa.
