FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

"California Community Colleges - the Way California Works" is the theme of this year's celebration. The California Community Colleges Chancellor has declared the month of April Community College Month throughout California, saying community colleges have a significant positive impact on the state's workforce by offering first-rate education and high-quality training to all Californians.

The Coast Community College District Board of Trustees will consider recognizing Community College Month in Orange County with a formal resolution at its April 3 Board meeting.

"As the workhorse of the California higher education system, community colleges have always provided an exceptional education value," said Walt Howald, President of the Coast Community College District Board of Trustees. "Community College Month is a time to celebrate our partnership with our community and local businesses."

Community colleges are home to many programs and services that benefit the community on a daily basis. Local colleges Coastline, Golden West and Orange Coast offer an affordable and accessible education to students looking to earn an associate's degree, transfer to a four-year college, upgrade their job skills, or learn a new trade.

Coast Community College District colleges really are the way Orange County works. As an engine for the local economy, the colleges of the CCCD partner with local businesses to determine which new skills are needed in the ever-changing workplace and are able to provide relevant workforce training and certification classes in a convenient and cost effective manner.

To celebrate Community College Month, local colleges will be hosting special events throughout the month. A calendar of events is attached to this press release, and is available on the Coast Community College District web site at www.cccd.edu.

As part of its Community College Month celebration, the Coast Community College District Board of Trustees will host its annual event to honor District faculty and staff for their service on April 24.

The Coast Community College District is the seventh largest community college district in the nation in credit enrollment, serving nearly 60,000 students each semester. The district is comprised of Coastline Community College headquartered in Fountain Valley, Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, and KOCE-TV, the district's public broadcasting station.
