"Women make up 57% of California's community college students and the Commission on Athletics has, over the past 25 years, expanded its women's athletic programs to include 11 intercollegiate sports. They deserve to be recognized for these outstanding achievements," said Board Vice President Paul Berger.
Women's sports programs have been extremely successful for the Coast Community College District. Orange Coast College boasts winning 21 of the last 25 Conference Sports Supremacy Awards for its sports program, which includes 12 women's teams and 12 men's teams, and several women's sports teams at Orange Coast College and Golden West College have taken home state championships in the last decade, including volleyball, water polo, swimming, and many other sports teams.
The Coast Community College District is the seventh largest community college district in the nation in credit enrollment, serving nearly 60,000 students each semester. The district is comprised of Coastline Community College headquartered in Fountain Valley, Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, and KOCE-TV, the district's public broadcasting station.
