District Staff Development Guide

Staff development programs are designed for all employees.  Full-time and adjunct faculty, classified, management, supervisors and confidential employees.  AB1725 funds are designed for activities and programs which are above and beyond the normal development activities of the college or District and are in compliance with E.C. 87153.

Authorized Uses for Staff Development Funds:

  1. Workshops, conferences, seminars and college courses.

  2. Released time, substitutes, tuition, registration fees and accommodations are permitted, pursuant to District policies.

  3. Presenters, consultants, and other facilitators (including support staff) to implement the intent of AB1725.  Employees shall be paid in compliance with current Agreements (Faculty - per diem rate; Staff - hourly rate).

  4. Staff in Vocational Education are encouraged to attend workshops, seminars, all District orientations and in particular increased state-of-the-art knowledge and skills programs.  In particular, increasing awareness and understanding of gender equity in vocational education programs is a specific priority in the use of staff development funds.

  5. Intersegmental exchanges with other educational entities are encouraged without compromising instruction, student services, and other operations of the District.

  6. Requests for new and expanded programs or curriculum development will be considered to the extend that these proposals are above and beyond what is currently required by the institution or the District.  Per diem or released time may be granted as part of regular assignment.

  7. Computer hardware and software and its uses and applications should be acceptable in terms of improving the delivery of instruction, student services, or other administrative services.

  8. Consistent with both federal and state mandates, Affirmative Action is of high priority and all staff will be provided with in-servicing and training on Affirmative Action.  Staff are encouraged to attend internal as well as external conferences, workshops and seminars on this subject.
