Transgender & LGBQ Resources

Sex, Sexual Orientation, and Gender Identity

Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, sex stereotypes, sexual orientation, gender identity, and transgender status. The District promotes a safe and welcoming environment in which all members of our community can expect to be treated respectfully in every context. The District also recognizes that members of the LGBTQ community face higher levels of discrimination, bullying, intimidation, and distress than their heterosexual and cisgender peers.

Through policies, training, educational opportunities, and consistent action, the District is committed to maintaining and promoting inclusive spaces for all.

District Resources

Gender-Inclusive Spaces

The District promotes gender-inclusive spaces and education through its Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Compliance (OEIC). For an introduction to creating respectful spaces in your classroom and/or work environment, please see OEIC's

Name Standards and Pronouns

Coast Community College District (CCCD) and its three colleges - Coastline College, Golden West College, and Orange Coast College - recognize that many students and employees use first names that differ from their legal first names to identify themselves. Starting August 2016, CCCD students and employees have the ability to select their first name through the MySites (MyCCC, MyCOAST, MyGWC, and MyOCC).

Single User Restroom Facilities (Laws, Policies, and Procedures)

In accordance with California State Law and District policy, each District site offers single-user, gender neutral restroom facilities. For additional information on the laws, policies, and procedures governing single-user restroom facilities, please see the following resources:

Training Opportunities

SafeZone Training

The District regularly offers SafeZone training for both students and employees. In this training, participants expand their cultural competence and discover strategies for promoting and facilitating LGBTQ-inclusive environments. The training is intended for all interested parties. Whether you identify as heterosexual, LGBTQIA+, transgender, cisgender, ally, or aspiring ally, if you want to know more about creating accepting, safe spaces wherever you go, you are welcome here!

SAIL (Supporting Actively Inclusive Leaders) Training

Starting Spring 2018, the Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Compliance (OEIC) is also offering SAIL (Supporting Actively Inclusive Leaders) Training. This program provides insight into how participants can create an inclusive campus community where faculty, staff, and students take proactive steps to address the needs of people from historically marginalized and disenfranchised identity groups and provide comprehensive support to ensure that all community members are successful in their academic and professional pursuits. Additionally, SAIL empowers all of us to be active bystanders in our community in an effort to dismantle institutional and social systems of oppression and eliminate bias, prejudice, and discrimination from our campuses. SAIL believes that even the smallest action can make a tremendous impact in the lives of our students and colleagues. Join us, and set SAIL!

SAIL Training is application-based, and CCCD employees are eligible for consideration when they have completed SafeZone Training or SafeZone Train-the-Trainer within the past three years.

Each of the Colleges has certified SafeZone facilitators on staff, and SAIL can be scheduled through OEIC. the Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Compliance. You can also find trained SafeZone participants and SAIL participants by looking for these symbols in sticker form, in Canvas course shells, and in email signatures across the District:

Each of the Colleges has certified SafeZone facilitators on staff (including all of the campus Title IX Coordinators), and we are happy to provide regular training opportunities.
