During the July 19, 2017 regularly scheduled board meeting, the Coast Community College District Board of Trustees approved Resolution17-21 stating the intention to transition from at-large to district area elections. The intent of the proposed process was to offer greater opportunities for representation of the community on the Board of Trustees. Transitioning to the new system required that the Board of Trustees hold five public hearings which were held on August 2, August 16, September 12, September 16 and October 3, 2017.
During the Public Hearings, public testimony was received on a number of possible voting area configurations—including several that would have provided for seven trustees instead of the current five trustees who are elected to govern the District.
During the October 3, 2017 Public Hearing, the Coast Community College
District (CCCD) Board of Trustees adopted Resolution 17-28 to move from
at-large voting to by-trustee area voting for the election of trustees. Resolution 17-28, also included the adoption of the existing district map divided by five trustee areas. The new elections process and map will affect the next general election in 2018, when two trustee seats will be on the ballot. Continued public input can be emailed to email@example.com.
